The Konkin occurrence, located near the western margin of Treaty Glacier, occurs in the Lower Jurassic Betty Creek Formation, Hazelton Group. The Konkin zone crops out southwest of the Goat Trail zone and has been indicated to form part of the newer Copper Belle zone.

Rocks in the area include weak to moderately altered crystal-lithic andesite tuffs, intensely altered crystal-lithic andesite tuffs (sericite schist), dolomite, limestone, quartzite, pillow lavas, red, purple, and green volcanic breccias, porphyritic flows and minor chert. The strata are intruded by a Jurassic diorite stock.

Near the Konkin pit alteration comprises chlorite+epidote+quartz +calcite+pyrite+ magnetite and locally hematite. Mineralization consists of semi-massive and disseminated chalcopyrite, pyrite and lesser galena. Gold values occur within a skarn like assemblage of chlorite, epidote, quartz, calcite, hematite and magnetite hosting pyrite and chalcopyrite mineralization.

Two nearby parallel east-trending altered zones, from 12 to 20 metres in width, occur in a silicified dolomite/lithic-crystal tuff host. A potassium feldspar-altered intrusive is reported to cut the zones in several places. The zones, covered by overburden on the west, extend about 30 metres east where they are cut off by north-striking faults. The altered zones consist of magnetite-hematite-chalcopyrite-pyrite-quartz-calcite veinlets in chlorite-diopside-garnet bearing rocks. Coarse native gold occurs in vuggy oxidized quartz-calcite veins. Epidote, malachite, azurite, limonite and trace sphalerite are also reported.

A weighted average of two assays, of two trench samples that together traversed the full width of the northernmost altered zone, was 4.87 grams per tonne gold over 12.5 metres (Progress Report, Teuton Resources, October 17, 1988). A high-grade section within the zone contained 960 grams per tonne gold over 1.2 metres (Vancouver Stockwatch, September 21, 1987).

In the summer of 2011 Seabridge commissioned Quantec Geoscience to complete a magneto-telluric survey along its proposed tunnel route for engineering purposes. American Creek Resources authorized the survey as the survey would also detect potential alteration zones/mineralization to depth. The results show several resistivity lows. A large resistivity low trends to the south near the Konkin Gold zone towards the Iron Cap copper-gold zone on the adjacent claims held by Seabridge. The magnetotelluric survey was terminated at the start of this anomaly and about 2 kilometres of Treaty Creek claims between the Konkin Zone and potential extension of the Iron Cap zone remain un-surveyed.

Work History

Sampling and trenching occurred on the West Nunatak showings in 1988 and 1989; these may have included AW, Ridge, Goat Trail and Konkin zones. In 1989, 11 holes totalling 1182.75 were completed by Tantalus Resources Ltd with 509.96 metres in two holes on the Goat Trail Zone (holes TA89-5 and 6) and 672.79 metres in 9 holes on the Konkin Zone (holes TA89-1 to 4 and 7 to 11) (Assessment Report 19872). Geological mapping was done in the West Nunatak area in 1994 by Prime Resources Corp (Assessment Report 23686). Further trenching was reported for 1996 in the West Nunatak area but is not publicly documented. Drilling occurred on the new Copper Belle showing in 2007 by American Creek Resources Ltd to the immediate north of the Goat Trail showing (Assessment Report 30241, 30910). In 2020, Tudor Gold Corp. completed 52 diamond drill holes, totalling 45 517 metres, on the Goldstorm (MINFILE 104B 704) and Perfect Storm zones of the Treaty Creek Gold property.
